John N. Beierle, in County for Fifty Years, Died October 18
After illness of a month due to a complication of diseases, John N. Beierle passed away at his home in David City, Monday evening, October 18, 1920, at 10 o’clock. He had lived in Butler County 50 years, had resided in David City 21 years. He was in his 80th year.
Mr. Beierle had been in failing health for a number of years, and two years ago affliction of blindness came upon him. He was bedfast almost a month during his last sickness. A week of that time he was cared for at the David City Hospital.
Date of Mr. Beierle’s birth was June 24, 1841. His birthplace was Burstadt, Germany.
His age at time of death was 79 years, 3 months, and 24 days.
His marriage to Miss. Anna M. Kirschner took place in Germany in 1865. Of the 13 children born to Mr. & Mrs. Beierle 10 are living, seven daughters and three sons. Mrs. Beierle passed on September 16, 1900. Mr. Beierle’s marriage to Mrs. Anna Houska was on June 24, 1909. She survived him.
The children are : Mrs. Chris Smith, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. W. F. Weber, Rising City; Mrs. H. Taddiken, Shelby; Mrs. Lorenz Bock, Mrs. E. M. Clouse, and Thomas Beierle, David City, ; Mrs. J. A. Shay, Shelby; Mrs. J. F. Kilgore, Bradshaw; Mike & Henry Beierle, Surprise. All of the living children except Mrs. Smith, living in Canada, were at
the bedside of their father when he passed away; they were here at different times caring for him during his last illness. There are 45 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In 1870 Mr. Beierle came to this country and homesteaded near Ulysses. With the exception of the three eldest children, who were born in Germany, and the two youngest, the family were reared on this homestead. After leaving this home Mr. Beierle lived on different farms in Butler County. He came to David City in 1899, where he had since resided.
Mr. Beierle was a member of the Congregational Church. Rev. Wm. Richards conducted the funeral services, held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Congregational Church. “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me,” “Abide With Me” and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” were sung by a quartet, H.L. Boston, Hugo Hahn, John Harper and J. M. Rutt. The pallbearers were Joseph L. Bock, Marion Bock, Vernie Beierle, Alfred Beierle, Irving Taddiken, and Edward Taddiken, grandsons of Mr. Beierle. Internment was in the David City Cemetery. [3]
